A Word of Encouragement (06/30/2007)

Women of Grace This summer, I was invited to share with a group of ladies in Puerto Rico who call themselves “Women of Grace.” The retreat was held in a large home overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. The house was offered by its owners for the use of church activities. However, the home is unfurnished and had not been in use for some time. The small group of 30 or more women slept on Red Cross cots that were scattered throughout the home. There were two bathrooms for all of us---women, remember!

“…the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.”
(2 Cor. 1:3-5)

We were definitely “women of grace” that weekend; we had a wonderful time in the Lord, and nobody complained about the line at the bathroom door!

This group was formed without much fanfare a couple of years ago. Two single moms were comparing notes one day and realized that there were probably many other ladies that were going through the same struggles they had. They decided to meet once a month and offer support and fellowship to these other single moms. Since then, a small support group has been formed to keep in touch and to help each other in any way possible.

Mark 14:3-9 – This portion of scripture tells of the woman who poured oil upon the head of Jesus. It was costly and it was the only thing she probably had to give to Him. Those all around were criticizing her harshly. Jesus said, “Leave her alone, why are you bothering her? She has done a beautiful thing to me.” Later He says, “She did what she could.”

Fixing Beds This is what the Lord asks of each of us. We do what we can for Him and for others. We often think that it must be some great, inspired work to impress the Lord. This is not so. We do what we can for the Lord, and His name will be glorified.
